The Republic of Tajikistan conducted a population census from 1 to 15 October 2020. Preliminary results of the census were prepared in the first half of 2021 for 5 indicators (total population, urban and rural population, men and women).
The census was conducted using three methods of data collection:
- Internet form (SMS message, on the website www.aholi.tj);
- Electronic tablet (more than 3500 tablets);
- Traditional method (paper).
According to preliminary data, the population of the Republic of Tajikistan as of October 1, 2020 amounted to 9.7 million people. Of the total population, 2.5 million or 26.2% were urban population, and 7.2 million (73.8) people live in rural areas.
At the same time, 4.9 million men and 4.8 million women were registered in the republic.
